2014 Memories

SC2K14.JPGDSC03239.JPG

This year has been one of the most memorable years of my life at school to be honest. This year has been full of laughter, cries, ugly moments and more. My highlights this year were sports camp and being part of the Leadership team.

SPORTS CAMP 2K14
I was lucky enough to be able to go to sports camp twice. Its a lifetime experience. The only thing that was weird was, last year was easier to get along with other schools. This year it seemed like I don’t know...WEIRD. I have had the most enjoyable time spending a whole week with most of my friends and school mates. Sadly things come to an end.

.LEADERSHIP.
This year I was proudly selected to be one of the schools leaders. As I was luckily selected, we also got the chance to go to the Viaduct Centre to represent our school for the Festival Of Education. We met a lot of nice people and we got free stuff. There were performances to watch and competitions to enter to get free chocolate. But the only thing that was tiring was talking to heaps of people. My mouth was sore at the end of the day.

Out of all the fun things we did this year I am surely gonna miss this school a lot.
All I have to say is make the most of it.

Exponents

Walt: Revising exponents

This game helps you revise your knowledge on exponents including fractions and equations. I found this really confusing at first but I got the hang of it after I did it a few more times. Next I would like to revise some more stuff that I learn’t over the year.

Order Of Operation

Walt: Order of Operation

I found this really fun because it helped me alot with order of operation. The knowledge I used in this was Bedmas. This exercise is really good if you're having problems in order of operation. The last one I didn’t quite understand, but I eventually got the hang of it.
B - Brackets
E - Exponents
D - Division
M - Multiplication
A - Addition
S - Subtraction

Patterns and Rules

Walt: To solve problems in algebra

I found this game really interesting to play. It basically teaches you how to find the next pattern in the sequence and sometimes it’ll tell you how many more sticks to make up the next pattern. This game helps me revise my knowledge on patterns and rules. Unfortunately I did not make it up to hard and extreme, but I think I did well because if I had one more question and I got it right I would’ve went onto the hard level. Math Shapes

math - shapes5.png

Walt: To name shapes.

This game was like a test. It was a bit easy for me, but the hard thing was playing against the clock. Next time I would like to get all the questions under 10 seconds. I think this game is really good for learning the names to shapes because you have a timer to time you.
Next I would like to learn what nets are all about.

Snowman Division

Walt: Find how many sets.

This game is just like the Candy Division game, but this game is just a different theme. This game helped me revise my multiplication and division. I found this game quite easy because I could easily use my multiplication. Next time I would like something more challenging for me to learn more. I didn't find out my score, but I know that I got about 100% because I didn't get any wrong. My strategy is using my multiplication.

Jump in with me!

Today Glen Innes School went to the G.I. centre to show off our sick, (slang for amazing) moves and skills. Of Course many parents and some Glen Innes community residents came down to enjoy what us kids love to do. We love to keep our heart healthy and keep it pumping.

We started off with room 1 who were extremely good for children who have just started school. Some kids skipped so well that they looked as if they weren't even 5 or 6 years old.
So basically all the classes went in classroom orders.

I really loved room 10's performance because its was mixed with skipping and dancing. Nor did they just skip and dance but there were also some lovely bright smiles coming from them. I thought room 11's skipping routine was a bit off. Some students looked lost and confused and some looked angry. In my opinion I thought that they should’ve all skipped together rather than just having groups coming into the centre and skipping. It’s all about getting your heart up and running, not sitting and watching. Besides that I did enjoy watching.
Of course they left the best class for last (jokes). Its funny because room 12 were actually struggling with music and ideas, but today happened like we weren't even worried. Its actually something we’re good at. We muck around at the start and end up with an amazing performance.

I really enjoyed skipping in front of a cheerful crowd. It was fun and exhausting at the same time.

Budget/Savings/Holiday

Walt: Saving towards a goal (holiday).
hahahaa Clauds.jpg
I played a game with Claudia to learn words that are useful when talking about using money. The new words that I learn’t are consumer, income and profit. I used the definition sheet to learn these words. I was familiar with loan, goods, choices, decision and services. I find financial literacy really helpful for me because it will help me in life about making decisions and choices. It also helps me a lot because I'm not good at maths.

I don’t really need to save money because my dad has already made a savings account for me. $19.99 goes in my savings account every week. I do really need to save up on a new phone because I have been very clumsy lately. I would also like to save up for a holiday away with my family and college fees.

Function Machine

function machine.jng
Walt: Solve problems in division, multiplication and subtraction.

This game is very interesting. I wouldn't really call it a game though. Its like a teacher that can help you with some things you need with. I find this really useful because if I need help with hard mathematical problems I can come onto this site.

WARNING!

How did this dragon get here?
No one really knows. What if it just flew right through the building and stopped for a nap? Well we’ll find out.

News reporter Ashley says she was in town reporting for the NZ fashion week. But then something caught her attention. No one would ever believe her. It was a dragon. It was flying around the town. She stated that, as it was flying up high into the blue sky, something flew into his huge hazel eye. He lost control and came shooting down like a meteorite. His enormous red body came flying down and crashed into an abandon building like a rocket. Luckily no one was hurt.

As soon as the dragon crashed through the building, she saw a young boy aged around 8-9 years old walking towards the dragon. As he was walking he was crying. The dragon stood up with smoke pouring out of his nose. As he stood up slim was dripping out of his wide mouth.

Police and swat crews arrived at the scene to find the reporter with the boy backing away from the dragon. The swat crew spread around the dragon and one of the swat crew members stabbed the dragon with a needle ( it had a special kind of sleeping drug ). The dragon felt the needle go through his rock solid body and tried to attack but yawned so loud that the building shock.

The reporter was safe, as well a the young boy. The boy’s parents got the news and came quickly with tears coming down their cheek. The dragon was caged and sent to the Milford Dragon Academy.

12 Days Of Mixed Emotions

The past twelve weeks have been amazingly exhausting. The year 8's have been to food tech for the past 12 weeks. We have had our ups and downs with our teacher. I did enjoy going, but some people spoil it for the good ones.

The two Favorite dishes that I made were fried rice and sweet and sour beef. The reason I chose fried rice and sweet and sour beef out of all dishes is because it was full of taste and colour. It was absolutely mouth watering when Chloe and I completed the dish. The taste was like happiness falling into our mouth. The smell was out of this world, and the combination of the colours was indescribable.

I hated doing the dishes and cleaning everything, but the people who surrounded me made cleaning entertaining. Most of the teams would eat then clean, but Chloe and I would always clean before we sat down to enjoy our meal. We did this so we didn’t have to worry about the dirty dishes.

Yes, we did have our ups and downs with our food tech teacher. We were also mistakenly blamed for things we didn’t do. It was kind of hard to understand her talk because she’s Tongan, but some people took it the wrong way. Its hard to remember the last time we all just focused on our work. But I clearly remember when Ms. V came in to help us with our brownies.

We do need to work on our noise level and respect the teacher more, but other than that I enjoyed being in food tech.

Gem Division Game

gems.jpg
Walt: Find how many sets.

This weeks maintenance is a gem division game. It just basically helps you revise your multiplication facts. I found it a bit easy. There were levels that said easy, medium and hard, but its all the same. Next time I would like something more challenging, so maybe if I don’t really know it I can learn something new. It didn't tell me my score but, for sure I know I got 100% because I got it all right.

Reflection - Basic facts

My basic facts test 2 stage 6 score was 586.
I did well in sorting the numbers out from big to small, writing words into numbers and multiplication and division. I need to work on my place value and using symbols < > =.

I need to do more homework on my place value and using symbols. My siblings and friends must help me improve more on areas I need help. I can ask the teacher to give me more work on place value. For me to get to the next stage I need to work my hardest on the main areas I need help on to get 100%.

Chopper Challenge Operation

Walt: Revise multiplication and division facts.

This game was to refresh our minds on learning our times tables. I found this quite easy.

My strategy for this game is quick recall of my multiplication tables. I was slow therefore my score was low. I need to practise and get much faster. I would like to get close to Keanau’s score of 4356.

My Servey

My walt this week is Plan an investigation. Display data. I have been finding out what kind of animals students would prefer to be for a day. It was tricky for them to choose out of 4 animals. As I was finding my information, I didn't think it was hard at all. People understood my main question and could easily follow my instructions. About only 1 or 2 students did not understand, but they got the hang of it fast.

Although I don’t really like maths, going around to people and surveying them was alright. I found quite a lot information in my survey. It was really surprising to find out that most students from Glen Innes School would rather be a for cheetah for a day. Maybe everyone chose cheetah because of how fast it is.

There are so many things I would like to learn about. But what I mostly want to learn is alegra. I would like to try my hardest to improve at it.

Football Place Value

This game is called Football Place Value. Basically you try to throw the football ball at team members. You do have a time limit so its all about how fast you can answer these questions. Once they catch the ball, you have to answer a place value question. For example:

824 602 : What is the place value of 2?

  1. hundreds
  2. ten thousands
  3. tens
  4. hundred thousands

Every time you throw the ball to you team mate, the answers you get will get harder.
Maybe you should give this game a go. Click the link below to check it out.
